Job Summary
Transport students safely to and from school routes, including general education and special education populations, while assisting with boarding, exiting, and securing children in safety belts. Perform daily pre-trip safety checks on buses, inspecting tires, lights, fuel, oil, and wipers, and immediately report any defective equipment. Complete daily and monthly operations reports, bus incident reports, and clean the interior and exterior of the vehicle. Communicate with dispatch via two-way radio, handle special runs such as evening trips or field transfers, and meet with parents or school officials regarding concerns.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
- Equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the above knowledge, skill, and abilities
- Must be able to assist students with physical disabilities board and exit the bus
- Must be able to assist with seating and securing children in safety belts
- Must be able to conduct and record daily pre-trip checks on bus and bus components
- Must be able to inspect tires, lights, fuel level, oil levels, and windshield wipers
- Must be able to report defective equipment immediately
- Must be able to complete daily and monthly operations reports indicating times, mileage, and routes
- Must be able to complete bus incident reports as necessary
- Must be able to clean interior and exterior of bus by sweeping floors, dusting and washing seats, and cleaning windows
- Must be available for special bus runs as needed, including evening runs
- Must be able to communicate with dispatcher supervisor utilizing two-way radio transmitter
- Must be able to meet with parents, teacher, principals, or other school officials on occasion to express and listen to concerns regarding bus operation, scheduling, and safety
- Must be able to report violations of state school bus law (other drivers) as required
