Job Summary

Administer first aid, medication, and specialized treatments for ill, medically fragile, or injured students while assessing health-related issues and complying with legal requirements. Monitor referred students and those with chronic illnesses to address immediate concerns and assist in achieving functional levels. Respond to emergency medical situations such as severe falls or bleeding to ensure appropriate attention and follow-up. Collaborate with parents, healthcare providers, and public agencies to promote student health services and maintain confidentiality under FERPA. Leave detailed notes on daily issues and adhere to all building and district policies while demonstrating adaptability in a noisy, active school environment. Provide daily contracted services for the current school year.

Required Qualifications

  • LPN or RN
  • Ability to administer first aid, medication and specialized medical treatments (e.g. oral suctioning, catheterization, etc.)
  • Ability to assess situations involving students' health-related issues (e.g. safety, abuse: physical, sexual, or drug, etc.)
  • Ability to collaborate with a variety of individuals and groups (e.g. parents, students, health care providers, and/or public agencies, etc.)
  • Ability to monitor students referred (e.g. illness and/or injury, etc.)
  • Ability to monitor students with chronic illnesses
  • Ability to respond to emergency medical situations (e.g. severe falls, prescription reactions, bleeding, etc.)
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality as defined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Ability to demonstrate the ability to adapt to circumstances
  • Ability to exhibit good judgment and use appropriate language or behavior while on assignment
  • Ability to remain on duty for the entire assignment
  • Ability to leave detailed notes for the nurse on any issues experienced during the day
  • Ability to adhere to all the policies, procedures and regulations of the building and district
  • Ability to speak and hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously
  • Ability to read handwritten or printed material
  • Consistent and regular attendance
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, Board policy, administrative procedures and forms and governmental regulations and guidance
  • Ability to complete forms, write reports and engage in written correspondence
  • Ability to present information effectively and respond to questions
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
  • Ability to solve a variety of problems in many different situations
  • Ability to interpret instructions presented in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to perform basic computer functions such as word processing and internet use
  • Ability to use district software for recording grades and finding student information
  • Ability to work in a school environment that is noisy and active
