Job Summary
Perform professional nursing services at schools to maintain health standards, manage school health records, and provide emergency treatment for students and employees. Conduct physical, visual, and auditory screenings; administer first aid; and transport injured individuals to medical facilities. Inspect school plants and cafeterias for safety and sanitary conditions, while ordering and inventorying health supplies. Consult with staff regarding non-attendance and communicable diseases, and prepare required reports. This substitute position requires a New York State Registered Professional Nurse license and operates under the general direction of a school physician or nurse-teacher.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from a school of nursing approved by the State Education Department from a course approved by such department as qualifying for Registered Professional Nurse
- Eligibility for a license issued by the State of New York to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse
- Possession of the license at the time of appointment
- Good knowledge of nursing principles and techniques and their relation to medical practices
- Skill in the application of nursing techniques and practices
- Working knowledge of material-medica, diatetics, sanitation and personal hygiene
- Ability to understand and follow technical, oral and written instructions
- Ability to keep records and make reports
- Ability to get along well with students, teachers, parents and others
- Ability to carry out successfully the measures prescribed
- Ability to plan and supervise the work of sub-professional and non-technical personnel
