Job Summary
Responsible for providing preventative health services to facilitate optimal health growth and development in students. Tasks include health assessments, screening for health deficits, developing and implementing student health plans, and providing health education and guidance. The role requires knowledge of school health principles and the ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. The nurse will also coordinate health activities between home, school, and community, serve as a resource in health instruction, and maintain health data for students.
Required Qualifications
- Qualified to practice as a licensed or registered nurse in the State of Texas and holds an unrestricted license.
- Certified in CPR or BLS (or obtain in the first 6 months)
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in public health nursing, community health nursing, school health nursing or pediatric nursing.
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of current trends in nursing and of literature in the fields of school health.
- Knowledge of organization and administration of other cooperating agencies.
- Ability to participate cooperatively in a program of school health nursing.
- Ability to exercise professional judgment in making decisions.
- Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively with students, parents, administrators, other school personnel.
