Job Summary

Provide health-related services for students under the direction of the building principal and Director of Student Services. Accompany technology-dependent students to and from school when medical status is at risk, and administer first aid, CPR, and emergency care to sick or injured students. Perform standard physical health care procedures including vision, weight, hearing, scoliosis, and immunization testing, while maintaining daily logs for prescribed and non-prescription medicine administration. Assist with disease identification and control, coordinate district and community services with paraeducators and volunteers, and complete required accident and child abuse reports. Maintain student health records and attend training related to student medical treatment needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Washington State license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse or a Registered Nurse
  • Ability and desire to work on a constant basis – minimum 1 time a month
  • Desire and ability to work and communicate effectively with staff, students and parents from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Knowledge of the principles of nursing and medical terminology
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of aseptic/sterile techniques and infectious disease control
  • Knowledge of care and maintenance of medical supplies and equipment
  • Knowledge of first aid and CPR
  • Knowledge of both normal and abnormal anatomy, physiology, psycho/social, and disease entities
  • Ability to communicate in person, writing, or on the phone, with students, staff, parents, and volunteers, in a diverse environment
  • Ability to work under pressure, adjust to varied situations, demands, and new health issues
  • Ability to learn and integrate policies and procedures adopted by the school building, the District, and the State of Washington
  • Ability to be entrusted with confidential and sensitive information
  • Washington State license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse or a registered nurse with an associates degree
  • First Aid and CPR Card
  • Ability to stoop, crouch, crawl, bend, kneel, stand for periods of time, and lift in order to assist a student with personal care
