Job Summary
Conduct substitute instructional support in the absence of regular staff, escorting students to and from classrooms and attending to their personal hygiene. Tutor students academically and socially while managing challenging behaviors in small group settings. Redirect students toward positive conduct and perform documentation and record-keeping as required. Lift up to 50 pounds and communicate with case managers, medical providers, and caregivers when necessary. Work on a regular reliable basis with duties performed in indoor and outdoor conditions.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to work with challenging students in a small group setting
- Be able to tutor students (academically and socially)
- Escort students to and from classrooms
- Able to attend to personal hygiene of students
- Good communication skills/Interpersonal skills
- Responsible for documentation and record-keeping
- Positive, caring, and patient
- Enjoys working with students with behavior challenges
- Ability to redirect students towards positive behavior
- If required able to communicate with the student's case manager, medical providers, and caregiver
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Two years of study at an institution of higher education
- Associate degree or higher
- Obtain voluntary Paraeducator certification through the Board of Educational Examiners
- Meet a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge and experience in behavior modification program preferred
