Job Summary
Substitute for Head Start program classrooms (and potentially the kitchen) in Brooklyn, NY. Supports Lead Teacher in planning and supervising activities for a classroom of 8-20 children in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards and DOHMH Article 47 regulations; may be placed in the kitchen under supervision of a cook with a Food Handlers License to assist with meal preparation and delivery. Responsibilities include maintaining a safe, sanitary environment; assisting in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate programming; working cooperatively with staff; maintaining confidentiality of family records; observing and communicating about children's health and development; supporting health and safety training; and lifting up to 35 pounds. Per diem schedule with coverage as program needs require; must meet pre-employment health and clearance requirements and obtain First Aid/CPR and Preventive Infectious Diseases certificates within the first year. Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalence
- Experience working with young children
- Ability to work with children and families with special developmental, social or cultural needs
- Ability to interpret safety regulations, policies and procedures
- Ability to foster and maintain positive, professional relationships with staff and participants
