Job Summary
Prepare, assemble, display, and serve food to elementary school students under the supervision of the Food Services Director. Maintain cleanliness and safety standards for kitchen and lunchroom facilities, including washing vegetables, heating items, and cleaning equipment after use. Replenish food items and clean tables post-lunch as needed. Perform other duties as required, including filling condiment containers and operating institutional kitchen equipment. This on-call, at-will position requires flexibility for short-notice assignments across various locations and involves physical tasks such as lifting and standing for extended periods.
Required Qualifications
- Tacoma-Pierce County Food Service Handlers Card
- Successful completion of fingerprint and background check
- Ability and desire to work on a constant basis – minimum 1 time a month
- Desire and ability to work and communicate effectively with staff, students and parents from diverse cultural backgrounds
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable, as assignments may change on short notice and may require coverage in various locations
- Ability to follow verbal and written directions and work at a moderately fast pace
- Ability to communicate in a cordial manner with students, staff, and parents
- Ability to work continuously at a moderate to fast pace
- Ability to fill the lead position when necessary
- Knowledge of and the ability to operate institutional kitchen equipment such as can opener, oven, etc.
- Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance
- Ability to proficiently speak, write, and understand English
- Ability to lift 40 pounds
- Ability to push/pull 50 pounds
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to walk
- Ability to stoop
- Ability to bend
- Ability to crouch
- Ability to carry items requiring a moderate amount of physical effort
Desired Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Six (6) months of work experience in an industrial kitchen
