Job Summary
Ensure student safety and supervise individuals or small groups as directed by teachers. Assist with classroom materials, classwork, and life skills development while maintaining confidentiality of records. Act as a liaison for the district, staff, parents, and community with tact and diplomacy. Escort students throughout the building, assist with recess and lunch supervision, and distribute communiqués. Administer basic first aid and utilize emergency procedures as necessary. Maintain and improve professional competence through seminars and workshops. Perform other duties assigned by the building administrator, including clerical tasks and special needs support.
Required Qualifications
- high school diploma, GED or associate's degree
- experience working with students
- good physical health
- mental and emotional stability
- comply with the guidelines set forth in the No Child Left Behind Act
- Aide Permit through the Ohio Department of Education
- Completed at least 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours as verified by college transcripts from an accredited institution of higher learning, associate's degree or higher, or passing score on State ParaPro Assessment
- Must meet District hiring requirements
- Attain and maintain appropriate State of Ohio certification/license
- Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to operate all applicable office equipment
- Ability to work effectively with others
- Effective communication skills
- Basic computer/keyboarding skills
- Organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to operate special needs equipment
- CPR certification
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing situations
- Student management skills
- Effective, active listening skills
- Daily exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue
- Occasional interaction among unruly children
- Occasional requirement to travel
- Occasional requirement to carry, lift, push, and pull items up to a maximum of 50 pounds
- May be called upon to physically restrain students who are potentially dangerous to themselves or others
- Frequent and regular requirements to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, climb, kneel, and stoop
- Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions
