Job Summary
Support students with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, grooming, mobility assistance, toileting assistance, specialized feeding, and other personal care tasks. Monitor and document students' health status, including vital signs, symptoms, and changes in condition, communicating findings to the School Nurse. Administer medications and perform basic medical procedures under supervision, such as gastrostomy-tube feedings and emergency tracheal suctioning. Maintain a safe and clean environment while ensuring accurate equipment and supplies are managed. Collaborate with the Special Education Teacher, school staff, families, and external providers to deliver comprehensive care. Participate in IEP meetings and support the implementation of individualized health care plans. Educate students in self-care practices and advocate for their well-being by providing culturally competent care. Promptly report suspected child abuse, neglect, or safety incidents to DSS, Law Enforcement, or school administration as required by law.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of a state-approved Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training program and passing of the required examination
- High school diploma with previous health related experience
- any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
- Must be willing to maintain certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) in accordance with the standards of the American Heart Association
- Must be capable of performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as required
- Must exhibit manual dexterity to enter data into a computer
- Must exhibit the ability to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids
- Must exhibit the ability to hear and understand speech at normal workplace levels, outdoors and on the telephone
- Must exhibit the ability to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal workplaces, outdoors and on the telephone
- Must exhibit physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds
