Job Summary
Conduct split shift coverage for Springfield Public Schools, transporting students to and from school, activities, and field trips. Drive vans and buses while supervising students in a supportive capacity, executing verbal and written instructions during M-F shifts from 6:00am to 9:00am and 1:30pm to 4:30pm. Maintain a minimum of 20 hours per month to retain active status and ensure district reimbursement for CDL renewal costs. Candidates without a current Commercial Driver's License (CDL) must obtain a permit within ten working days of job offer and complete required training. Confirm weekly availability by calling Monday mornings by 8:00 a.m. to remain on the substitute pool.
Required Qualifications
- Valid State of Oregon Commercial Drivers License (CDL)
- Medical Examiner's Certificate
- Oregon Department of Education (ODE) Pupil Transportation Certificate
- Valid First Aid/CPR Card
- Ability to drive vans and buses
- Knowledge of immediate geographic area
- Ability to work with students in a supervisory, supportive and positive capacity
- Desire and ability to work a split shift
- Ability to understand and execute verbal and written instructions, policies and procedures
- Strong, but appropriate, interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability and commitment to practice cultural competency and demonstrate respect for diversity
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students, staff and parents using tact, courtesy and good judgment, often in difficult and stressful situations
- Must enjoy children of all ages
- Must be available for driver training and/or testing prior to beginning the position
- Must be able to obtain a CDL permit within ten (10) working days of job offer if not currently holding one
- Must work a minimum of 20-hours per month to maintain active status
- Must work a minimum of 20-hours per month for the District to reimburse CDL renewal costs including DOT Medical Card physicals
- Must call on Monday mornings by 8:00 a.m. during the school year to confirm availability for the upcoming week
