Job Summary
Accompany the bus driver and students on the assigned route, escorting children across streets at each stop to board and disembark. Supervise passenger boarding and unloading at transfer points and school sites, ensuring students are seated before motion begins. Assist physically and mentally handicapped students as needed, maintain bus order, and enforce district policies on student behavior. Report disruptive incidents, trouble at stops, or emergencies via two-way radio, and assist the driver when backing up. Attend scheduled training classes and meetings while wearing required safety belts and uniforms.

- Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instruction
- Ability to work well with drivers, students, school personnel, and the Transportation Department
- Ability to understand students in their care
- Ability to be helpful to students and fellow workers as needed
- Good judgment
- Dependability
- Common sense in exercising control
- Patience
- Conscientiousness
- Physically capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
- Must satisfy the requirements for School Bus Attendant as set forth in the Rules and Regulations of the New York State Commissioner of Education
- Undergo fingerprinting and a criminal history background check prior to appointment
