Job Summary
Develop a plan for emergency health care of injured athletes and provide immediate evaluation and treatment. Initiate and process all injury reports while maintaining accurate medical records for athletic physicals, treatments, and physician referrals. Render on-site decisions regarding player playing status in the absence of a physician and counsel coaches and athletes on participation and follow-up care. Establish injury prevention practices, conduct in-service programs for the coaching staff, and ensure current CPR and First Aid certification for all coaches. Supervise the athletic training room, attend practices and games, and assist staff in equipment selection and fitting.
Required Qualifications
- Must be certified by the National Athletic Trainer Association and maintain that association's standards
- Must be licensed by the Virginia Board of Medicine as an Athletic Trainer or be eligible for licensure
- Must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, administrators, and medical personnel to ensure that proper methods are used in prevention and treatment of injuries
- Must be a Certified First Aid/CPR Instructor, or willing to complete the certification upon hiring
