Substation Technician

Job Summary
Conduct ground grid and medium voltage cable testing, troubleshoot control circuits, and perform breaker and relay retrofits. Execute low and medium voltage breaker tests using Megger, Ductor, and Hi-Pot equipment while completing mechanical repairs on switchgear. Read prints, plot curves, and submit accurate reports. Requires an Associate's degree in Electrical Power or 5+ years of hands-on field experience, proficiency with high voltage test equipment, and a valid driver's license. Extensive travel up to five days per week with on-call duty approximately six times annually is required. This role involves frequent standing, walking, and climbing, with occasional aerial work on ladders or scaffolding.
Required Qualifications
- US Citizen or a green card holder
- Associate's degree in Electrical Power or Electrical Engineering, or 5+ years of hands-on field experience
- Local candidates
- Experience as a Switchgear/High Voltage Technician
- Proficiency with high voltage test equipment as well as knowledge of low and medium voltage test equipment
- Proficient computer and phone skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to work a flexible schedule based on client/customer needs
- Valid driver's license
- Effective communication skills
- Extensive travel; up to 5 days/week with overnights possible
- On call duty is required approximately six times per year
- Ability to stand, walk, bending, stooping, crouching, climbing, crawling, and reaching frequently
- Aerial work may sometimes be necessary, such as working on ladders or scaffolding
