Job Summary

Conduct ground grid and medium voltage cable testing, troubleshoot control circuits, and perform breaker and relay retrofits. Execute low and medium voltage breaker tests using Megger, Ductor, Hi-Pot, and Timing equipment, while completing transformer tests for power factor, TTR, and insulation resistance. Read prints, plot curves, and complete mechanical repairs on breakers including wiring and parts replacement. Submit reports accurately and maintain safety consciousness during extensive travel up to five days per week with overnight stays. Perform on-call duty approximately six times annually while utilizing high voltage test equipment and Microsoft Office Suite.

Required Qualifications

  • US Citizen or a green card holder
  • Associate's degree in Electrical Power or Electrical Engineering, or 5+ years of hands-on field experience
  • Local candidates
  • Experience as a Switchgear/High Voltage Technician
  • Proficiency with high voltage test equipment as well as knowledge of low and medium voltage test equipment
  • Proficient computer and phone skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on client/customer needs
  • Valid driver's license
  • Effective communication skills
  • Extensive travel; up to 5 days/week with overnights possible
  • On call duty is required approximately six times per year
  • Standing, walking, bending, stooping, crouching, climbing, crawling, and reaching frequently
  • Aerial work may sometimes be necessary, such as working on ladders or scaffolding

  • Aptitude to quickly learn and apply test procedures for various types of substation equipment
  • Performs testing on low and medium voltage breakers including Megger, Ductor, Hi-Pot, Hi-Current, and Timing tests
  • Testing on power transformers including Power Factor, TTR, Insulation Resistance, Winding Resistance
  • Completes mechanical work and repairs on breakers including wiring, painting, parts replacement
  • Utilizes and accurately reads meters
  • Reading and plotting curves
