Substation Technician

Job Summary
Maintain, construct, and retrofit electric substation equipment, including circuit breakers, transformers, switches, battery systems, tap changers, cooling systems, lighting arresters, and related infrastructure. Install, maintain, and repair breakers and transformers; perform switch and clearance orders; conduct infrared testing and interpret readings; perform monthly inspections on transformers, breakers, relays, batteries, generators, and other equipment; construct new substations and modify existing ones; pull and terminate control wiring in control houses and substation equipment. Support 24-hour operations with standby and callout duties; some travel to remote facilities with overnight stays. Requires High School Diploma and up to two years of relevant experience; Texas Class C Driver’s License; Texas Class A CDL (or ability to obtain within 90 days); Crane Operator certification (or ability to obtain within 2 years); completion of Garland Power & Light Apprentice Substation Technician Program.
Required Qualifications

- Up to Two years of relevant experience
- Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License
- Valid Texas Class A CDL or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
- Certified Crane Operator or the ability to obtain within 2 years of hire
- Ability to complete the Garland Power & Light Apprentice Substation Technician Program
