Job Summary

Conduct new construction, maintenance, repair, testing, adjusting, and troubleshooting of substation equipment and systems, including concrete foundations, buswork, transformer installations, and circuit breaker operations. Execute structural work such as steel erection, conduit installation, and grading concrete slabs while interpreting structural drawings and developing material lists. Operate heavy equipment like excavators, backhoes, and man-lifts, and coach subordinates on the crew. Maintain company vehicles, test equipment, and tools in good working conditions while working safely near energized high-voltage systems. Perform rigorous physical labor, climb heights up to 125 feet, and work in confined spaces. Travel 90% of the time, including to Florida and other states, and be prepared for long hours, overtime, and weekend work as requested.

Required Qualifications

4-6 year continuous working knowledge of 525 kv and below substation equipment, apparatus, and wiring
Able to perform rigorous physical labor
Must be capable of climbing and working at heights up to 125 feet above ground
Must possess a Commercial Drivers' License
Must supply own personal hand tools required by the company for this work
Must supply own safety toed work boots
Must be capable of lifting in excess of 50 lbs
Must be capable of working in confined spaces/areas
Must be able to work independently or with others
Operational experience of various types of heavy equipment: Bucket, derrick and boom trucks
Operational experience of various types of heavy equipment: Backhoes, excavators and skid steer loaders
Operational experience of various types of heavy equipment: Articulating Man-lifts
Operational experience of various types of heavy equipment: Pressure Diggers
Operational experience of various types of heavy equipment: Trenchers
Operational experience of various types of heavy equipment: Track Crawler Loader/Backhoe
Operational experience of various types of heavy equipment: Rough Terrain Telescopic Forklifts
Willing to work over-time or long hours during emergency conditions and/or when requested
90% Travel Required
Capable of following Company safety rules and policies
Must have knowledge of construction standard practices, techniques, quality requirements, applicable codes and standards
Must be capable of working in close proximity of energized substation equipment
Must be capable of interpreting substation structural drawings (i.e. elevations, plan views, section views, grounding details, and foundation plans) and communicate with customers and subordinates
Capable of accurately appraising technical situations
Must be able to coach subordinates on the crew
Must be able to develop and interpret a material list
Must be able to trace out phasing in a substation and verify to the three line diagrams
Retained knowledge in all aspects of substation systems
Ability to establish grade, elevations, and layout of foundations and cable trough in new and existing stations
Grade and finish concrete slabs and foundations
Capable of performing routine carpentry work on building wood concrete forms to meet size and shape of concrete to be placed
Willing to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position
Willing to work over-time when requested
