Substation Senior Engineer - Physical Design

Job Summary
Substation Senior Engineer responsible for the conceptual, preliminary and final detailed design of new, upgraded and expanded substations, including material procurement, construction and commissioning/startup support through energization. Engineering duties include developing and delivering physical and electrical design studies, drawings, exhibits and specifications. Provides autonomous QA/QC in primary physical substation design; offers coaching and mentoring to less experienced engineers. Coordinates with subject-matter-expert groups (Distribution/Transmission Studies, Grounding Studies, Protection/relay coordination, Civil Engineering, SCADA/Communication, Transmission & Distribution Engineering, Environmental Planning, Surveying/Lands/ROW, and Project Management/Controls).
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- 10+ years of project and design engineering experience
- excellent verbal and written communication skills
- strong organizational and planning skills
- ability to work in a team environment
- commitment to quality and accuracy
- willingness to meet fast-paced project schedules
- PE license (preferred)
- advanced knowledge of power engineering principles
- expertise with applicable codes, standards and design tools
- ability to oversee and direct design personnel on a project team
- experience in utility or merchant power industry (a plus)
- subject to client-mandated drug and background checking
- occasional travel/driving required
