Substation Physical Designer / Engineer

Job Summary

Required Qualifications

• •High school diploma
• •Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Drafting/Design or Certification
• •Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent technical degree)
• •Minimum of 3+ years of experience in utility substation design
• •Understanding of substation design from 500kv to 4kV
• •Working knowledge of NESC (National Electrical Safety Code) requirements
• •Understanding of single-phase and three-phase power systems, transformers, conductors, and pole configurations
• •Demonstrated experience supporting substation Engineering scope on utility or power infrastructure projects
• •Familiar with engineering and design support principles, practices, processes, methods, and techniques
• •Familiar with relevant codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements
• •Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, and comply with company policies
• •Able to uphold workplace safety and ability to abide by UtilliCo's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
• •Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek
• •Knowledge of industry standards and practices
• •Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modeling) processes
• •Strong understanding of engineering principles and construction methods
• •Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
• •Able to produce Plans, Sections and Elevation Views
• •Experience with the Preparation of Bill of Materials, and Specifications
• •Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering documents
• •Good communication and teamwork skills
• •Knowledge of building codes and regulations
• •Authorization to work in the United States without the need for employer‐sponsored visa sponsorship now or in the future
• •Experience with BlueBeam software
• •Familiarity with computer-aided drafting software, such as AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
• •Capable of producing plans, section and elevation views, assembling shop drawings, and preparing bills of materials
• •Excellent research and evaluation skills with analytical mindset
• •Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to technical and non-technical audiences
• •Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives
• •Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, principles, spreadsheets, and tools
• •Experience using drafting and design software such as: AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical(Revit, SDS), 3D CAD, MicroStation
• •Proven experience in Microsoft Office Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point)
• •Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and communication abilities
• •Ability to work independently while managing multiple projects and deadlines
• •Valid driver's license
• •Candidates must be at least 21 years old due to insurance requirements
• •Must possess a satisfactory driving record
• •Ability to travel occasionally for field visits and client meetings
• •Background check and drug screening

Desired Qualifications

• •Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent technical degree), preferred
• •6+ years of experience working with electric utilities or utility consulting firms preferred
• •Knowledge of MicroStation is a plus
• •3D CAD experience preferred
