Job Summary
Oversee construction of contracted substation projects by performing daily on-site inspections to verify work aligns with approved drawings and specifications. Properly observe testing requirements for drilled pier foundations, slab on grade, monolithic foundations, access roads, yard rock, ground grid installation, substation steel, and wiring. Interact professionally with contractors to provide clear, accurate, and timely communications while creating and maintaining detailed daily inspection reports. Review discrepancies with appropriate parties and maintain all contract documents, permits, and updated drawings. Ensure a safety-conscious work environment, initiating corrective action as necessary. This project-specific non-exempt role requires fluctuating hours and involves working in indoor and outdoor field environments, including remote locations, with physical demands such as walking three or more miles daily on varied terrain and operating vehicles.
Required Qualifications
- Five years minimum working knowledge of Substation facilities and foundations
- Previous substation construction and inspection experience
- Journeyman Lineman experience
- In-depth knowledge of construction principles and techniques, including construction specifications, drawings and conformance requirements
- Proficient in Project Management applications (e.g., Procore)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and able to perform basic web-based tasks
- Basic understanding of field mobile applications (e.g., ArcGIS, Field Maps, etc.)
- Possess and maintain any necessary certificates
- FHWA – NHI – 132070 (Drilled Shaft Inspector's Qualification)
- ACI Concrete Field-Testing Grade I Certification or Higher
- Physical ability and mobility to travel and work in a field environment
- Ability to walk/hike three or more miles a day on various surfaces including flat, dry, wet, slippery, uneven, rough, steep terrain, hills, and slopes
- Ability to stand, sit, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, twist, grasp and make repetitive hand movement
- Ability to carry, push and/or pull light to moderate weights up to 50 pounds
- Ability to operate assigned equipment and vehicles
- Ability to verbally communicate to convey and exchange information
- Ability to see and hear in normal range with or without correction
- Ability to work/drive safely in potentially harsh weather conditions
- Ability to work/drive safely in hazardous traffic conditions
Desired Qualifications
- Previous substation construction and inspection experience preferred
- Journeyman Lineman experience preferred
