Job Summary
Substation Electrical Engineer responsible for the design and engineering of high-voltage substations (13kV-500kV) for projects ranging from small distribution upgrades to large transmission facilities. Lead and execute proposals and scope development, prepare cost and labor estimates and schedules, perform physical substation design (yard layouts, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, raceways, power systems, BOMs), develop protection and control designs (panels, single/three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics), conduct engineering studies and reporting (grounding, load studies), prepare equipment specifications for procurement/testing, coordinate with Civil/Structural/Networks teams, mentor less experienced staff, engage with clients, perform quality reviews, provide short-term field support during construction, and contribute to business development. Travel up to 25%. Requires ABET-accredited degrees (with one or more of the listed paths) and 3+ years of experience; master’s degree and 2 years of experience also acceptable. Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, 2D/3D rendering, and strong communication and teamwork skills.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program and 3 years of electrical engineering experience, consulting preferred.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and 3 years of electrical engineering experience, consulting preferred.
- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering and 2 years of electrical engineering experience, consulting preferred required.
- Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
- Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
- Strong computer skills. (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
- Strong computer skills include AutoCAD, MicroStation, 2D and 3D rendering programs and other analysis programs.
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
- Engineers in Training-EIT Certification preferred.
