Job Summary
Substation Design Technician role performing general substation work including equipment identification, layout planning, reading and applying manufacturer drawings, creating construction documents and detailed facility drawings, material requirements and bills of material, and assisting in guiding less experienced staff. Requires drafting proficiency (CAD), familiarity with standards and codes, ability to prepare setup, scanning, merging construction documents, and providing information to customers or other entities. Hybrid work arrangement after onboarding with requirement to live within reasonable commute to Duke Energy facility; on-the-job mentoring and potential advancement; safety and company-standard practices emphasized.
Required Qualifications
- Must have at least two (2) years experience as a Technician in the Substation line of progression, or the equivalent
- Must have completed the equivalent of sixty (60) quarter credits in an approved engineering/technical program as specified by the Department or have earned a degree recognized by the Department
- Must pass an examination as specified by the Department for entrance into this position
- Must have demonstrated proficiency in drafting standards, symbols, nomenclature, CAD tools, and engineering terms, including the use of materials, reference books and catalogs
