Job Summary
The Substance Use Disorder Counselor provides counseling and treatment services to patients with addictive problems, including managing their case files and maintaining accurate records of intake, assessments, and treatment plans. Applicants must have a High School diploma, relevant certifications, and experience in counseling individuals with substance abuse challenges. Required qualifications include specific hours of education and supervised work experience, as well as passing relevant examinations. The role also involves adherence to infection control procedures and supporting program standards. Continuous education and support for Registered Counselors are provided.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma required.
- Valid CCAPP, CADTP or CAADE registration required for Reg. SUD Counselor.
- Valid CCAPP, CADTP or CAADE certification required for Certified SUD Counselor.
- 315 hours approved, AOD specific education.
- 160 hours of supervised work experience (field practicum).
- 2080 hours of work experience.
- Passing score on the IC&RC Written Exam, CATC exam or equivalent California approved test.
- Experience counseling people with substance abuse challenges using evidence-based practices.
- If in recovery, at least two years sobriety preferred.
- Current CPR and first aid certificate or willingness to be trained required within first (90) days of employment.
- Must have a valid driver's license with an insurable driving record that meets the organization’s insurance policy.
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of the local treatment community and referrals preferred.
- Excellent customer service experience including active listening and problem-solving.
- Computer (PC) literate in general office functions such as word processing, email and database software.
- Commitment to HIPAA and ability to abide by standards of professional ethics and maintain confidentiality.
