Job Summary
Conduct individual counseling, lead treatment groups, and manage daily treatment activities for clients on your caseload. Assess psycho-social functioning to develop individualized treatment plans, apprise team members of intervention strategies, and maintain therapeutic consistency. Provide crisis intervention services, motivational counseling to collaterals, and discharge/aftercare plans with appropriate referrals. Document clinical information including progress notes and discharge summaries while conducting alcohol/drug assessments per WAC 246-341. Collaborate with supervisory staff and the Program Manager in program review and staff training.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in human services, psychology or addictions studies
- College course work in Substance Use dependency, human sciences or related field
- Successful completion of at least one course per quarter/semester toward educational requirements as necessary to obtain an active Washington State Department of Health SUDP credential
- Knowledgeable of a wide variety of therapeutic approaches and the ability to set and maintain therapeutic limits
- Must be capable of functioning autonomously while maintaining continuous communication with other staff members
- A broad knowledge of the stages of human personality development including cultural, social, and psychological factors affecting individuals and families involved with substance use
- Knowledge and practice of crisis intervention theory
- Knowledge of the various theories, forms, stages, and manifestations of addictive behavior
- Awareness of common manifestations of resistance to change in the addicted client
- Awareness of socio-cultural barriers to change
- An in-depth knowledge of alternative coping mechanisms to replace the use of chemicals
- An understanding of the theory and practice of individual and group treatment of chemical abusing clients
- CPR/First Aid Certification
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Great attendance
- Ability to work well with others
- Autonomy, clinical maturity, sound judgment, and creativity
