Substance Abuse Counselor

Job Summary
Provide individual and group counseling for patients recovering from drug use and alcohol disorders, guiding them through intake and orientation while building trusting relationships. Develop and maintain individualized treatment plans, collect patient needs assessments, and follow up on referrals to connect clients with community resources. Respond to crisis situations with compassion, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements while fostering an inclusive environment. Work Mon-Fri from 5am to 2pm in a fast-paced clinical setting requiring standing, bending, and frequent computer use.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Human Services, or a related field
- Meet state-level requirements
- Must have a bachelor's degree (or higher)
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in behavioral health
- Ability to make decisions and use proper judgment with confidential and sensitive issues
- Ability to deal appropriately with patients and team members in stressful or other undesirable situations and to seek direction from supervisors when necessary
- Ability to demonstrate sufficient knowledge and understanding of human behavior to show potential for rehabilitating drug dependent patients
- Knowledge of the substance abuse population, treatment planning, and the field of human social services to work toward the rehabilitation of the patient community
