Job Summary
The Substitute Teacher provides a warm, nurturing, stimulating, safe and loving environment where each child can develop language, cognitive, social and emotional, and physical skills. Primary caregiver/teacher when the regular classroom teacher is absent; implement age-appropriate activities for birth to 5 years, support language and communication, social and emotional development, and help maintain federal, state, local and accreditation standards. Maintain portfolios and records, assist with curriculum, participate in staff meetings and trainings, communicate with families, encourage parent involvement, and assist in kitchen/cleaning duties as assigned. Emphasizes safety, proper feeding routines for infants, positive guidance, and a cooperative attitude within the program; requires TB screening, 45-hour DCF training, and current First Aid/CPR.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- DCF 45-hour training and experience in a child care setting preferred
- First Aid and Pediatric CPR training
- Complete TB screening before direct contact with children
- Complete online Food Handlers Course Serving Safe Food in Childcare within 90 days
- Complete 15 hours of in-service training annually
- DCF required 45 hr training within 1 year of employment
- Ability to work with diverse staff and families
- Knowledge of child growth and development
- Ability to communicate effectively and maintain records
