Job Summary
Manage the process of contracting fabrication services from outside sources to supplement production capabilities, ensuring quality delivery within time and budget constraints. Collaborate with Preconstruction, Project Management, and Engineering to evaluate project needs and identify qualified sub-fabricators, then negotiate and administer subcontract agreements while monitoring progress to minimize project risk. Assist estimators in obtaining pricing and evaluate fabrication options during bidding, ensuring materials and drawings are delivered accurately to sub-fabricators. Represent the Company professionally when interacting with customers, vendors, architects, and engineers, maintaining accurate documentation for all subcontract activities. Serve as the primary liaison between DWS and sub-fabricators to ensure seamless execution from the customer's perspective while verifying that outsourced work meets established quality standards.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access
- Three or more years of relevant experience in structural steel fabrication, commercial construction, manufacturing, project coordination, purchasing, or vendor/subcontractor management
- Demonstrated experience communicating effectively with customers, vendors, subcontractors, or internal stakeholders regarding project scope, schedules, materials, drawings, quality concerns, and delivery commitments
- Experience working in an AISC-certified structural steel fabrication environment
- Ability to read and understand architectural and engineering drawings and specifications
- Ability to read and understand structural steel shop drawings
- Working knowledge of structural steel detailing, material procurement, fabrication, welding, surface preparation/coatings, galvanizing, quality control and shipping processes
- Working knowledge of common structural steel industry standards, specifications and quality requirements
- Familiarity with AISC certification requirements and applicable AWS welding codes
- Strong professional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build productive relationships with customers, subcontract fabricators, vendors, project managers, engineers and internal operations teams
- Ability to communicate scope, schedule, drawing and material requirements, quality expectations, changes and risks clearly, accurately and in a timely manner
- Ability to lead difficult schedule, quality or performance discussions professionally while maintaining accountability and productive business relationships
- Ability to evaluate subcontractor and vendor capabilities, capacity, schedules, quality systems and overall performance
- Working knowledge of purchase orders, subcontract agreements, change management and basic project cost and schedule controls
- Ability to read and interpret material to satisfactorily do job
- Hear sufficiently to be aware of safety issues
- Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment. PPE includes steel-toe safety shoes, hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, and hard hats
- Employee is expected to work 40 hours a week
- Hours including overtime and weekends may be required based on Drake-Williams Steel's needs
