Job Summary
Attend prenatal and postnatal study visits at Vanderbilt facilities to identify participants needing support and develop advocate relationships based on shared lived experience. Promote retention by maintaining regular contact, addressing barriers, and coordinating follow-up with community partners and resource lists. Assist participants in navigating recovery services, distributing donations, and escalating safety concerns per protocol while maintaining strict confidentiality. Collaborate with the research team, attend trainings, and serve on study committees. Recognize and appropriately escalate safety concerns according to established protocols. Maintain clear documentation of all interactions, referrals, and follow-up activities.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED degree
- Certification from state agency in peer support for substance use disorders
- Lived experience with a substance use disorder and currently in sustained recovery
- Ability to work collaboratively in team environments to achieve common goals
- Strong time management, relationship-building, and communication skills, including active listening and compliance with trauma-informed care best practices
- Understanding of and commitment to recovery principles, harm reduction, and community-based resources
- Familiarity with or comfortability to learn computer programs such as Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams), Zoom, and basic data management platforms
- Willingness to work hours based on research participant appointments which are scheduled at all times of day, including morning, afternoon, late afternoon, evening, and/or weekends
Desired Qualifications
- History of work as state certified peer support specialist or certified recovery coach for substance use disorder recovery
- Past experience working directly with people in a service-oriented field
