Job Summary
The Writing Center seeks student tutors to assist a diverse range of students, including international and graduate students, approximately 10 hours a week. Responsibilities include hosting workshops, developing instructional content, and maintaining a welcoming environment. Candidates must have strong writing skills, experience in academic writing, and the ability to work independently. A commitment to help others, excellent communication skills, and a friendly demeanor are essential. Successful candidates will need to enroll in WRTG 21800: Writing Center Pedagogy for credit during Fall 2025.
Required Qualifications
- Solid academic standing and strong writing abilities, particularly in expository genres
- Successful completion of either Academic Writing I; Argument; Inquiry, Research, and Writing Across the Disciplines; Introduction to the Essay; or Ithaca Seminar in Writing
- Completion of at least one additional writing course beyond the 100-level; Argument strongly preferred
- Sophomore standing at time of first week working
- Commitment to helping others become more effective writers
- Excellent communication skills
- Good listening abilities with a sense of maturity and responsibility
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with public speaking and presenting to groups
- Experience/interest in writing copy or instructional material, web design, online content development, PR, and/or graphic design
Additional Requirements
- Rising sophomores to seniors; cannot hire current seniors or graduates
