Job Summary
Advise students on academic issues, program offerings, and course selections while resolving basic bookstore validation and eBook inquiries. Complete and maintain student scheduling and course revisions per University standards, guiding students through registration processes and prerequisites. Collaborate with faculty and administration to assist students facing personal or academic concerns, communicating semester start preparations and conducting new student orientations. Enter updates into University platforms regarding all engagement and communication, negotiating with departmental personnel to resolve student issues. Prepare materials for orientations and connect students with tutoring, writing center, and library resources.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- 1-3 years of advising, counseling, or related experience
- Proven experience providing exceptional customer service in an education or service-oriented environment, addressing student inquiries and needs effectively
- Proficiency in advising, course selection, and academic planning, along with the ability to provide guidance on resources for student success
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling clear and empathetic communication with students, faculty, and staff
- Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to assist students in resolving academic and personal challenges by connecting them with appropriate resources and support services
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position most of the time
- Must be able to occasionally move around the work location
- Must be able to communicate information and ideas so others will understand
- Constantly operates office and/or tech equipment which may include computers, copiers, fax machines, audio/visuals
- Frequently uses voice and hearing to communicate with students, staff or colleagues face-to-face or over the telephone
- Visually or otherwise identify, observe and assess
- Occasionally move, carry, or lift 10 pounds
- Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree in higher education, counseling or related field
