Job Summary

Part-time Research Assistant at Howard University (NOAA NCAS-M) supporting planetary boundary layer measurements and analysis. Responsibilities include assisting research projects within NCAS-M thrusts, handling instrumentation, data collection and analysis, and applying scientific programming (Python, C++, Fortran) to atmospheric datasets. Requires knowledge of atmospheric physics, boundary layer meteorology, clouds and the water cycle, plus experience with high performance computers. Candidates should be able to work independently and in teams, communicate results effectively, and contribute to reports and peer-reviewed publications. Appointment for 1 year with continuation pending funding and progress; includes 20 hours/week during regular semester and up to 40 hours/week in summer; located at Alain Locke Hall, Washington, DC.

Required Qualifications

  • BS or MS in atmospheric sciences or a closely related field
  • Experience in instrumentation, data collection and analysis with proficiency in scientific programming languages (e.g., Python, C++, Fortran)
  • Knowledge of atmospheric physics, boundary layer meteorology, clouds and water cycle
  • Experience with high performance computers
  • Ability to perform independent research
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstration of organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively in teams
  • Ability to produce reports and publish research results in peer-reviewed journals
