Job Summary

Conduct one-on-one mentoring sessions with diverse SSS participants, including first-generation, low-income, and students with disabilities, to guide them through academic and campus resources. Provide proactive referrals, support time-management skills, and assist students in navigating university systems while maintaining accurate documentation of all interactions. Attend mandatory trainings, monthly staff meetings, and SSS events to foster an inclusive environment that encourages student retention and success.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be willing to serve as a peer mentor throughout the academic year, contingent upon satisfactory performance and continued eligibility
  • Commit to working with students on a one-on-one basis
  • Attend monthly group meetings and training
  • Be well-organized in maintaining accurate documentation of mentoring activities
  • Communicate effectively with a diverse student population through in-person meetings, phone calls, texts, and email

Desired Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate student with at least 30 completed credit hours or graduate student in good academic standing and an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • Enrolled full-time during employment (12 credit hours undergraduate; or more credit hours; 6 hours graduate)
  • Non-students with a Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Education, Counseling, or a related field
  • Experience in working with college-aged students
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the challenges faced by first-generation, low-income, and students with disabilities
