Job Summary
Gain valuable hands-on veterinary experience under direct supervision from a veterinarian in a Petco Vetco Total Care hospital. Externs will be exposed to medical, surgical, diagnostic, and dental skills, observe and assist during procedures, learn to review patient history, formulate differential diagnoses and treatment plans, calculate drug dosages and fluid rates, and ensure safety and compliance with standard operating procedures and state practice acts. The role emphasizes hands-on clinical development in small animal medicine with mentorship from a DVM/Licensed Veterinary Technician, and participation is contingent on enrollment in an AVMA-accredited program and possession of medical and professional liability insurance.
