Student Account Financial Specialist

Job Summary
Bursar-level role focusing on financial operations and student accounts in an educational setting. Responsible for disbursement of federal funds and alternative funding options, third-party billing (including WIA, TA, and Vocational Rehabilitation), and processing/return of Title IV refunds. Maintain accurate student account records, coordinate with Financial Aid, prepare deposits and accounts payable submissions, document transactions in CampusNexus, and support onboarding and mentoring of staff. Must ensure compliance with US Department of Education regulations, manage refunds within 30 days of drop date, and contribute to the institution’s fiscal health. Location-based duties in Norfolk, VA with standard 40-hour week schedule; strong emphasis on accuracy, integrity, and customer service in a fast-paced environment. Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in business/accounting and CampusNexus experience, with ongoing professional development and opportunities for benefits and growth.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED (or equitable on-the-job experience)
- Minimum two years financial or accounting experience (preferably in an academic environment)
- Strong math and accounting skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, compliance-oriented environment
- Detail-oriented, analytical, highly organized, and able to multi-task
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with a customer-service focus
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams)
- Willingness to travel locally or overnight occasionally for business
