Job Summary

Position, align, fit, and weld parts to form complete units using SMAW processes. Perform precision measurement, layout, drilling, sawing, cutting, turning, milling, and grinding safely. Follow blueprints, examine metal stock, and verify conformance using measuring tools. Tack-weld fitted parts, identify proper consumables, and write routine reports. Maintain equipment cleanliness and adhere to safety, quality control, and OSHA guidelines. Work in a petrochemical/refinery environment with variable hours, over-time, and extensive travel throughout the U.S.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 6 months related work experience and/or training
  • Knowledge of SMAW
  • Knowledge of other welding processes
  • Ability to bend, stoop, walk, climb, squat, reach, kneel, push/pull, stand, sit, hand strength and dexterity
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to occasionally lift more than 51 pounds

  • Ability to perform a variety of welding processes using SMAW
  • Ability to identify proper welding consumables and fluxes for a selected process

  • Ability to move parts into position, manually or with hoists or cranes
  • Ability to lay out and examine metal stock or work pieces to be processed to ensure that specifications are met
  • Ability to verify conformance of work pieces to specification using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes
  • Ability to tack-weld fitted parts together
  • Ability to position, align, fit and weld parts to form complete units or subunits
  • Ability to work in a petrochemical / refinery environment
  • Ability to work in cold working conditions during winter months
  • Ability to work in hot working conditions during summer months
