Job Summary
The role involves production welding on ships or in a shop to support structural repairs and modernization of marine vessels, including US Naval vessels and MSC/ABS standards. Must read drawings and instructions, possess welding process knowledge (SMAW, FCAW, GMAW), certify in all positions with ceramic backing, interpret specifications, and operate welding equipment. Responsibilities include coordinating with the welding helper and Fire Watch, adhering to fire prevention protocols for hot work, arriving on site on schedule, working shifts and overtime, maintaining a clean and safe work area, delivering quality work with required documentation (OQE), and complying with the company’s anti-harassment policy. Duties include preparing work areas for hot work, surface preparation and joint inspections, weld defect inspection, documenting conditions, ensuring lock-out/tag-out, and following applicable safety standards.
Required Qualifications
- 1st Class Structural Welder - Fluxcore
- fluxcore (ceramic knowledge)
- SMAW, FCAW, GMAW certifications
- ability to read drawings and ship/MSC/ABS standards manuals
- OSHA PPE compliance
- ability to operate welding equipment
- up to four years of welding experience
- ability to perform hot work with fire prevention protocol
