Structural Welder

Job Summary

Perform welding processes on carbon steel and aluminum assemblies to required tolerances using GMAW-SP, GMAW-P, and GTAW methods. Determine layouts and weld parts according to engineering drawings, while monitoring quality per SSPs and MDDs. Execute oxy/fuel pre-heat and carbon arc gouging, verifying weld size with gauges. Work independently in 8-to-12-hour shifts involving heavy lifting, extended standing, climbing ladders, and confined spaces with potential exposure to chemicals and radiation. Pass all pre-employment screening requirements, including medical, psychological, and background checks, and successfully complete weld test procedures for GMAW and GTAW processes.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of related experience
  • High School diploma/GED
  • Certification in assigned area preferred
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision/oversight
  • Working knowledge of precision calibration tools (weld gauges)
  • Ability to operate multiple types of welding equipment
  • Good trouble shooting / problem solving skills
  • Highly motivated, self-starter
  • Ability to work multiple shifts
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, technique sheets and weld symbols
  • Ability to pass respirator fit-check
  • Willingness to wear respirator for portions of, or all of, an 8 to 12-hour shift or as required
  • Must be clean shaven for fit-check and wearing of respirator
  • Must be a team player
  • Flexible, willing to work long hours
  • Safety oriented
  • Willingness and ability to complete and pass all pre-employment and employment screening requirements
  • Proof of Identification - Driver's license or any other identification card issued by federal, state, or local government that contains a photograph and the person's name, date of birth, gender, height, eye color, and street address
  • Proof of US Citizenship
  • U.S. birth certificate
  • Valid, unexpired U.S. passport or U.S. passport card
  • U.S. Certificate of Citizenship or Certificate of Naturalization
  • A record of Military Processing-Armed forces of the United States (Form DD 1966)
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods during an 8 to 12-hour shift
  • Must be able to bend from waist, crouch, kneel and crawl periodically during an 8-to-12-hour shift
  • Must be able to climb ladders up to 25 feet at a time
  • Must be able to work in confined space work environment with the potential of extreme temperature exposure, chemical exposure, and radiation exposure during an 8-to-12-hour shift

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with GMAW-SP, GMAW-P and SMAW
  • Experience with the Fabrication of Submarine parts
  • Aluminum GTAW welding capability
  • Ability to determine layouts and weld parts and assemblies according to engineering drawings and specifications
  • Capability to perform oxy/fuel pre-heat and carbon arc gouging
  • Ability to verify weld size using weld gauges
  • Ability to monitor and verify quality in accordance with SSP's and MDD's
