Job Summary
Welds parts for vessels, tanks or other structural assemblies in a shipyard setting. Performs welding with carbon electrodes, prepares/workspaces by cleaning and preheating as needed, and examines weld beads for size and quality. Requires ability to read and follow English instructions, work at heights and in confined spaces, and operate across multiple shifts. Must be able to qualify in two gas-shielded FCAW processes (71T-1 and 811N3) and work across shipyard environments; standard duties include preparing, welding, finishing, and cleaning weld areas with emphasis on safety and adherence to welding specifications. Experience in shipyard environments and the ability to handle physical demands (lifting, standing, climbing, bending, crawling) are expected.
Required Qualifications
- Must be able to qualify in two gas shielded FCAW welding processes 71T-1 and 811N3 in the three positions.
- Knowledge of welding characteristics of metal.
- Must be able to work at heights, confined spaces, and any assigned shift.
- Must comprehend written and verbal instructions (in English).
- Must be able to hear warning signals, read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations and warnings.
