Job Summary
Structural Welder responsible for welding structural portions of marine vessels, including hulls, superstructures, masts, pilot house, and engine rooms, using wire feed and stick welding to support fabrication, assembly, subassembly, and final erection. Tasks include welding out panels and assemblies, fillet, butt-weld, socket, and mitered joints in various positions (root passes, hangers, repairs), setting up and operating MIG welders for watertight and skip weld patterns, preparing surfaces, maintaining equipment, ensuring safety and housekeeping, and collaborating with team members. Requires reading blueprints/specifications, working with aluminum, stainless, copper-nickel, and mild steel, and complying with shipyard safety practices; must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check. Required Qualifications
- 3+ years welding experience
- Ability to read, interpret specifications, and work from drawings and blueprints
- High School Education or equivalent or vocational education
- 2-G, 3-G ABS Steel or Coast Guard Certifications, or ability to obtain within 90 days
- USCG or ABS welding certification preferred/certifiable
- Ability to work overtime
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs; ability to work at heights and in confined spaces with respirator
- Proficiency with SMAW/TIG welding, FCAW/GMAW processes
- Experience with multiple alloys including aluminum, stainless steel, copper-nickel
- Strong verbal and written communication
- Safety-conscious with shipyard practices
- Experience in shipyard environment; ability to work as part of a team
- Knowledge of ship terminology and safety practices
