Job Summary
Structural Welder role performing welds on marine vessels including hulls, superstructures, masts, pilot house, and engine rooms; duties include fabricating, welding out panels/modules, preparing weld seams, setting up arc welders, MIG welding, back gouge with Air Arc, and finishing with grinding and inspection. Requires reading drawings/blueprints, welding across alloys (steel, aluminum, stainless, copper-nickel), OSHA 10, and Coast Guard/ABS welding certifications or ability to obtain within 90 days. Emphasizes safety, teamwork, and sharing knowledge in a shipyard environment; offers benefits and opportunities for future crew leadership.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years welding experience
- Ability to read, interpret specifications and work from drawings/blueprints
- 2-G, 3-G, 4-G ABS steel or Coast Guard certifications, or ability to obtain within 90 days
- USCG or ABS welding certification (or certifiable)
- OSHA 10 certification
- Ability to work overtime
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work at heights up to 60 ft
- Experience with MIG, TIG, SMAW welding processes (FCAW/GMAW)
- Knowledge of shipyard safety practices and vessel terminology
- Experience around heavy machinery
- Ability to work in confined spaces using respirator
- High school education or vocational training
- Forklift and/or manlift certification is a plus
- Certification as Shipyard Competent Person (preferred)
