Job Summary
As a Structural Technician IV, assemble major structural assemblies and perform minor part-fitting operations such as filing, sawing, burring, trimming, framing, riveting, drilling and reaming. Translate blueprints into fabrications to include basic layout, precision drilling, countersinking and the use of calibrated tools; align parts on jigs and aerospace vehicles using templates and fixtures; measure parts with micrometers and calipers to verify dimensions. Modify incomplete and complete assemblies and incorporate changes into the structure; monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures; perform maintenance duties and ensure effective communication between team members, team leads, quality control and engineering. Requires frequent walking, standing, stair climbing, repetitive hand/arm motions, and lifting up to 50 lbs; working conditions include exposure to outdoor elements, fumes or hazardous materials, and loud noises. Must-haves include tools in good working order and ability to read and implement complex technical drawings; experience with airframe corrosion removal and fasteners like rivets/hi-locks. Travel may be required; background in aerospace/defense and ability to obtain security clearance may be necessary. This is a contract role located in Hagerstown, MD, US.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- 10+ years of relevant experience
- Higher level degree may substitute for experience
- Must-haves: Must have/own tools in good working order
- Ability to understand and interpret moderately complex technical schematics, diagrams, blueprints, manuals and/or publications; ability to complete installations per technical drawings while maintaining edge distance and pitch
- Advanced experience with structure assembly, minor part fitting techniques and repair and refinishing such as airframe corrosion removal
- Ability to install various fasteners such as rivets and hi-locks
- Preferred: Ability to travel
- Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, the US Department of Defense, NASA or US Military
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance may be required
- Related experience may be considered in lieu of required education
