Job Summary
Inspect structural steel fabrication to provide quality assurance oversight for DOT-related projects across the United States. Perform QAI duties at fabrication facilities in compliance with AWS D1.5 Bridge Welding Code, AWS D1.1, and DOT standards, with occasional field reviews for erection and detailing. Requires AWS CWI certification, strong knowledge of AWS codes and DOT standards, and the ability to travel about 70% of the time. The role supports SME’s clients by overseeing QC at facilities nationwide and may involve supplemental reviews in nondestructive testing, coatings, and related services. Strong independent work skills, safety focus, and driving record are essential.
Required Qualifications
- A current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
- Significant working knowledge and experience with AWS D1.1 and D1.5, and DOT standards.
- Demonstrable experience in a similar or related position.
- Ability to review and interpret structural steel plans, working drawings, and technical specifications.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- A good safety and driving record.
- Approximately 70% travel.
