Job Summary
Lead and manage the structural steel detailing department, establishing goals, recruiting personnel, and conducting performance reviews to drive continuous improvement. Plan and assign resources across multiple projects, monitor schedules against fabrication milestones, and coordinate with project managers to align detailing with procurement and erection requirements. Oversee the development of SDS2 models, shop drawings, and fabrication packages, ensuring compliance with AISC standards and proper connection detailing. Review models for coordination with mechanical equipment, manage RFIs and revision control, and resolve technical issues impacting fabrication or project schedules. Serve as the primary liaison for customers and stakeholders, optimize drawings for shop production efficiency, and oversee the generation of CNC and machine-ready files.
Required Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Drafting, Construction Technology, or related field
- Minimum 8 years of structural steel detailing experience
- Minimum 3 years of detailing leadership, supervisory, or project coordination experience
- Advanced proficiency with SDS2 Steel Detailing software
- Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication, erection, and construction processes
- Thorough knowledge of AISC, AWS standards and structural steel detailing practices
- Experience managing multiple detailing projects simultaneously
- Strong knowledge of shop drawing production, erection drawings, BOM development, and CNC output generation
- Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Desired Qualifications
- Experience managing detailing operations for industrial, mining, material handling, manufacturing, or processing facilities
- Experience with coordinating multidisciplinary projects and equipment mounted structures
- Experience with Tekla Structures, Navisworks, AutoCAD, Inventor, Revit, or other BIM software
- Knowledge of CEMA, OSHA, MSHA, ASTM, and related industrial standards
- Experience supporting AISC-certified fabrication operations
- Experience working in a design-build, EPC, or vertically integrated fabrication environment
