Structural Steel and Welding Inspector

Job Summary

Perform field inspections of structural steel fabrication, erection, welded and bolted connections, and reinforcing steel installation across commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects in New England. Verify compliance with contract documents, shop drawings, welding procedures, and applicable codes while reviewing Welding Procedure Specifications and welder qualification records. Interpret structural and welding drawings, document inspection activities with accurate field notes, and prepare timely inspection reports. Communicate findings effectively with contractors, fabricators, and engineers while adhering to OSHA requirements. Requires AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification, ability to work outdoors in varying conditions, and experience with reinforcing steel inspection.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and reliable transportation
  • Authorization to work in the United States
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to walk on uneven surfaces, climb ladders, access elevated work areas, and perform inspections at heights
  • Ability to work independently and manage assigned inspections
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively with project teams
  • Ability to pass CORI/background screening and any project-required drug testing

Desired Qualifications

  • Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification
  • Other recognized welding inspection certifications
  • Extensive structural steel/welding inspection experience
  • Strong knowledge of welding processes, structural steel fabrication, and welding inspection practices
  • Familiarity with AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code – Steel and applicable construction standards
  • Experience with reinforcing steel inspection
  • Experience reviewing WPS, PQR, and welder qualification documentation
  • OSHA 10 certification
  • Technical education, welding background, or additional certifications
