Job Summary
Project Engineer II in the Design Division will serve as the key consulting engineer for residential and commercial construction clients. Responsibilities include performing comprehensive structural design for new wood, concrete, masonry, and steel structures; developing detailed load-path connection designs for gravity and lateral bracing systems; managing real-time client consultations and providing clear, actionable insights; analyzing construction alternatives, responding to RFIs, and communicating options to contractors; resolving miscommunications about work products; accurately estimating engineering fees for new projects; continuously enhancing design materials, spreadsheets, and standard language to boost team productivity; providing guidance and support to team members to ensure efficient division work; demonstrating strong time and project management skills; performing duties of the Project Engineer I role; and undertaking additional tasks as assigned. Hybrid onsite work arrangement is eligible. Site visits and fieldwork, including potential crawling through confined spaces, are anticipated.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
- Minimum of 1 year of related experience
- North Carolina Engineering Intern (EI) Certification
- Proficiency in reading, analyzing, and interpreting building codes, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations
- Strong report writing and business correspondence skills
- Effective presentation and communication skills for diverse audiences, including managers, clients, customers, and the public
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Capability to interpret technical instructions and manage abstract and concrete variables
- Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, drafting (AutoCAD or similar), structural calculation (Enercalc and RetainPro or similar), and structural modeling software (RISA 2D/3D or similar)
