Job Summary
Assist in providing structural technical support and inspection services for Illinois Tollway assets including bridges, retaining walls, and overhead sign structures according to ISTHA, IDOT, and AASHTO standards. Help develop basic repair scopes, perform design reviews and bridge calculations, and update structural inspection manuals while learning to use the Illinois Tollway's Asset Management System software. Aid in preparing annual maintenance and insurance reports using tablet technology for project documentation. This role combines remote, in-office, and field work within the Tollway's General Engineering Consultant staff.
Required Qualifications
- Basic understanding of structural engineering principles
- 5+ years of experience
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, or a related field, from an accredited U.S. institution
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Familiarity with the use of tablet technology for project documentation
- Valid driver's license
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Have a team player mindset with the ability to communicate proficiently in written and verbal forms
- Have good to great organizational skills
Desired Qualifications
- IDOT approved Team Leader or Program Manager
- FHWA-approved comprehensive training course (e.g., NHI 130055 or 130056)
