Job Summary
Structural Inspection Engineer to lead inspection, evaluation, and reporting of bridges and transportation structures for public-sector clients. Role combines hands-on field inspections with engineering judgment, coordinating access and logistics, and delivering detailed inspection reports. Responsibilities include reviewing plans and historical reports, leading field teams, coordinating logistics (scheduling, access equipment, traffic control, permits), developing site-specific safety/traffic control plans, performing and overseeing detailed inspections of bridges and fracture-critical elements, operating access equipment (bucket trucks, manlifts, under-bridge units), documenting findings with notes, sketches, and photos, evaluating conditions, and communicating with clients, agencies, subcontractors, and equipment providers. Requires maintaining licensure/certifications and willingness to travel, including overnight/out-of-state assignments.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited institution
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Minimum of 5 years of bridge and structural inspection experience
- Completion of FHWA/NHI bridge inspection training and refresher certifications
- Fracture-critical inspection certification preferred
- Training in mobile elevated work platforms and under-bridge access equipment
- OSHA fall protection and confined space training
- Valid, unrestricted driver’s license
- Physical ability to work at heights, over water, and in confined or demanding environments
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Willingness to travel extensively, including occasional overnight and out-of-state assignments
