Job Summary
Structural Engineer for a mining operation with primary responsibility to develop and implement site-wide structural steel management plans, including assessments, prioritization, and management plans. Travel between area sites required. Manage structural steel engineering projects from cost estimates, materials specifications, and calculations to design of structures, facilities and equipment, through installation and start-up. Coordinate work with engineering consultants, contractors, and operating staff for new equipment installation or testing to ensure conformity to engineering design. Provide structural steel assessments to management and technical staff; conduct cost projections and identify potential cost-saving projects; evaluate structural steel and provide decisions on condition. Produce general and fabrication drawings using AutoCAD. Requires Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering, 5+ years in structural steel engineering, and a Licensed Structural PE in Minnesota. Location: Silver Bay, MN with full relocation package available. Must be able to travel between sites; strong collaboration and communication skills essential.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering
- 5+ years experience in structural steel engineering
- Licensed structural PE in Minnesota (transferrable from other states)
- Previous knowledge of project management and creation of work scopes
- Previous project engineering experience
- Experience with cost analysis and budgeting
- Experience with quality management systems
- Ability to plan and coordinate multiple work tasks with a variety of employees, departments and outside contractors
- Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with all levels of the organization
- Strong computer skills; Microsoft Office experience, Access experience, and AutoCAD experience; preference for individuals with CMMS experience
