Job Summary
Structural Engineer responsible for performing structural analysis, design, and review for transportation infrastructure projects, including bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and sign structures. Will collaborate with designers, engineers, and technicians; may expand into lead responsibilities based on experience. Projects support public agency clients and require adherence to design standards and best practices. Key duties include preparing/reviewing structural calculations, reports, sketches, cost estimates, and design documents; ensuring compliance with design standards; coordinating with CADD technicians; identifying design challenges and developing engineering solutions; reviewing shop drawings and consultant designs for conformance; coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders; participating in design meetings and professional industry events; serving as lead engineer on assigned tasks as experience allows; and performing additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (required)
- EIT or PE license (preferred)
- Certified Bridge Safety Inspector (preferred)
- 4–16 years of structural engineering experience
- Experience with transportation-related structural design
- Working knowledge of PennDOT design manuals and standards
- Proficiency with Bentley MicroStation and transportation design software
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Strong time-management and organizational skills
- Detail-oriented with sound engineering judgment
- Ability to manage multiple projects within established schedules and budgets
