Job Summary
Design steel joists, joist girders, and steel decking for retail, school, and warehouse projects according to SJI and SDI standards. Interpret contract documents and communicate design requirements with architects, engineers of record, and fabricators. Provide engineering direction to detailing, design, sales, and production departments while ensuring structural steel and connections meet applicable codes. Become conversant in AISC, AISI, SJI, and SDI specifications. Assist the engineering department in ensuring sound engineering design of products through all stages of development.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Civil Engineering
- Emphasis in structures
- Be an EIT
- Capable of pursuing PE licensure in the future
Desired Qualifications
- Prior structural and/or joist experience
- Knowledgeable in interpreting structural drawings and contract documents
- Become conversant in AISC, AISI, SJI, and SDI codes and specs
